For babies between one and two months, before their heads become stable.
Holding in a vertical position:
In this position, your baby will be sitting down in the pouch.
If you put P-sling on your left shoulder, your baby’s head rests by your left shoulder, near the rings, facing his front right. You can utilize this position when your baby seems restless because he otherwise cannot see the outside world. Again, this position is effective for babies (a month or two old) whose heads are not yet stable. If your baby’s head touches the ring, you should wrap the tail cloth once or twice around the ring to provide padding.
This position supports your baby’s back and head on the pouch and the ring portion, but does not mean the baby is now supported on his own. Next, pull the tail cloth to adjust the pouch and stabilize the baby. You should find the position most comfortable for your seated baby, such as upright with feet tucked under (“seiza”), cross-legged (“agura”), or squatting down with knees tucked toward chest (“taiiku suwari”). Of course if baby’s legs are to be bent do so gently. Vertical holding is good for several-month-old babies, especially for calm ones. People who claim that this holding position makes the baby cry, tend to have very energetic babies. This position is not suitable for babies who do not enjoy fitting compactly in the pouch, or babies who are active enough to stand or bend their knees on their own. In such cases please utilize another position. Also, when the mother’s breasts are large, the baby may be pushed forward and the P-sling cannot properly hold him. If this is the case, try another position as well.

Step 1-2 - After you put on P-sling, raise the pouch cloth on your belly side up to your chest. But when you do this, do not pull the tail to tighten the pouch to the point that it is too small for baby to fit in or makes baby uncomfortable.
Step 3 - The pouch cloth on your belly side can be loose. Raise it up to your chest and put your baby in the pouch, having his head facing diagonal-front.
Step 4 - Place your baby’s buttocks in center of pouch. The pouch cloth should have enough width, so try to place buttocks as centered as possible.
Step 5 - Baby’s head should be placed near the double ring, padded by wrapped-around tail cloth if necessary.
